Walks around the Cafe

Over the next few days we will be adding more walks to this page, so please come back and discover different routes for discovering the countryside around the cafe.
The map below shows the starting point of all the walks - Flint Barn Cafe.
It is possibly a good idea to 'screenshot' the maps shown in the links, so you still have them if you lose signal on the walk.  You should be able to screenshot using your phone.

Please remember:
  • It gets extremely dark here once the sun goes down so plan the timing of your walk carefully.  You will be unlikely to find your way, even with a torch.
  • This is rough countryside so please do not wear open toed sandals, even in the summer as the long grass gets between your toes and can cut.  There are no tarmac paths.
  • Wear good boots in winter and dress for the worst weather you expect.
  • There are sheep in the fields so please be aware if you bring a dog, and act responsibly - all dogs can kill sheep.  There are also deer and pheasants in the woodlands.
  • The 'Bolder Walk' is suitable for children so long as they are used to walking.
  • If the weather is hot, bring water!  We are the only cafe on the ridge of the Downs for several miles (don't forget your dog may also need a drink).

The Bolder Walk

As with nearly all walks which start at Flint Barn Cafe, this one starts with a hill - but the views are well worth the effort.
Length - 2.5 miles
Difficulty - Will make your heart pump to start with so maybe take it gently if you are not very used to walking.  For those that walk regularly, it is easy.  This is suitable for children over 8 years old that are used to walking.

Henley Lane Walk

Remarkably this walk does not start with a hill going up, but rather a hill going down - however there is still plenty of climbing to do!
Beautiful orchids on Bepton Down at the right time of year.  When the light is right the woodlands are incredible to see.
Length - 2.77 miles
Difficulty - It has a big long climb so maybe only do this if you walk fairly regularly.
Young children may find this walk too tough.

Andy Goldsworthy - Chalk Ball Walk

For this walk we have been a bit cheeky.  Malinka kindly contacted us with a walk she has beautifully written for you to follow and we though you would love it!  So the link is below.  A bit of a treasure hunt to find all the chalk balls but its a challenge that I am sure you will enjoy.
Length - 5 miles
Difficulty - Long climb but fine if you are used to walking
Children - Over 12 years old who are used to walking longer distances.
